Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of technology is used?
3D Camera projects and reads infrared patterns to assess depth. Each scan we add helps build the underlying 3D mesh the model is based upon, as the camera rotates 360 degrees it captures the colours and contours of a space – using both 2D and 3D sensors to calculate dimensions and spatial relationships between objects.
The geometrical data is then converted into an efficient polygonal mesh that combines HDR-quality imagery with dimensionally accurate geometry to create an immersive 3D Walk-Through which can be easily streamed to any media player.
Can you include the exterior of my property?
Our scanning technology is best suited for indoor capture. The camera function is limited in bright sunlight. For best results scanning external spaces such as decks and patios is when there is no direct sunlight such as at dawn or dusk.
Why should I get a 3D model rather than still photographs?
Our 3D model will include interactive virtual walkthrough, dollhouse view, and floor plan view.
A panoramic photo depicts a space from one fixed viewpoint and lets you turn left or right. A 3D Model lets you walk through the space to experience it as if you were there.
How long is my 3D Showcase hosted online?
Our Virtual Tours require an enormous amount of data which is stored in the cloud. The first 6 months of hosting is free and is only $25 model annually after that. If you have 3 or more models on our servers hosting is free. You are free to cancel at anytime.
How large of an area can be scanned?
We can scan up to 3,000 square metres with a maximum of 200 scans.
How do I view my 3D Showcase?
The 3D model can be viewed online using any web-browser. We provide you with a URL and iframe embed code allowing you to place on your website or share with clients.
Can I view my Matterport 3D Showcase on my mobile?
Yes, the Matterport 3D Showcase is compatible with your mobile device. You can view it on your Apple iPhone and iPad, as well as Android phones and tablets. The best results are achieved if you are using the latest version of your device’s firmware/software.
How is a 3D Virtual Tour different from most traditional virtual tours?
Traditional virtual tours are a series of photos, which only show a limited view of the property. A 3D virtual tour is interactive, allowing you to navigate through the property as though you are physically there.
It also gives you the ability to view the property in different views, such as ‘Floor Plan’ or ‘Dollhouse’, which allows you to view the property from many different perspectives and angles.
How long will it take to scan my property?
Generally, scanning is completed in about 2-5 hours. This time depends on the size of the property and also the time required preparing the property.
How can I prepare my property for scanning?
Prior to scanning, it is recommended that the property is cleaned and de-cluttered and remove any objects you would not like scanned to be removed.
It is not possible to Photoshop any unwanted items from the scan once it is complete. Remember that the camera scans 360°, so everything that is visible within the room will be scanned.
Do I need to be onsite during the scan?
No, it isn’t necessary to be onsite during the scan. You can trust that we will take the utmost care whilst in your home.
We also recommend that pets are not in the property during the scan, as moving objects can affect the finished product.
Can you scan my property even if it is overcast or raining?
Our camera adjusts to different light conditions, so operating on a wet or overcast day is not going to be an issue.
Generally, we will turn on lights to keep a consistent light level throughout the property.
How many scans are in a model?
A 3D model is made up of a maximum of 200 scans.
After you scan the property, when will I have access to the tour?
In most instances, we will provide you with a link to the tour within 24 hours after completing the scan.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
If you wish to cancel the scan, please provide us with 24 hours notice. Cancellation within 24 hours will incur a cancellation fee.
What method of payment is accepted?
